Moon Estates Ltd
Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 1 September 2026
These Terms & Conditions apply when you purchase products or services from Moon Estates through moonestates.com. Please read them before placing an order.
1.About Moon Estates
The website and Moon Estates business are operated by Moon Estates Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 17260369. Our full company information, including our registered office, is available through the Company Information link in the website footer.
2.What you’re buying
When you purchase from Moon Estates, you are purchasing a 1-acre, 10-acre or 100-acre plot of land on the Moon, allocated from the Moon Estates land database. Your purchase includes a personalised Moon Deed recording the name of the registered owner and the unique plot number allocated to their lunar land, together with the physical presentation materials described on the website at the time of purchase. The precise contents and design of presentation materials may change from time to time; your order will contain the version advertised when you place your order.
3.The nature of lunar land ownership
Moon Estates Ltd has been allocating land on the Moon since 2000 from Dennis M. Hope, founder of the Lunar Embassy and the originator of the private lunar property claim on which these allocations are based.
Each purchase is allocated a unique plot number and recorded in the Moon Estates land database against the person named on the deed.
Dennis M. Hope’s original claim asserted private ownership of the lunar surface and associated property and mineral rights. His position is based on his interpretation of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which prohibits national appropriation of the Moon and other celestial bodies but does not expressly refer to appropriation by private individuals.
Private ownership of lunar land and the associated rights claimed under this interpretation have not been formally recognised or determined by an international court or equivalent terrestrial land-registration authority.
Your Moon Deed records the lunar property allocated to you by Moon Estates under this system.
4.Plot allocation
Each purchase is allocated a unique plot number from the available Moon Estates database for the acreage purchased. A plot is allocated only after successful payment. Once allocated, the plot number is associated with the named owner and order in our records. Plot numbers are allocated by Moon Estates and customers cannot normally select a particular plot unless we expressly offer that option.
5.Buying for someone else
You can purchase land on the Moon for yourself or give it as a gift. When purchasing for someone else, you are responsible for providing the correct name to appear on the deed and any other personalisation information requested during checkout. You can have the physical presentation sent to you or directly to the recipient. Where offered, you can also schedule a future dispatch date for a physical gift. This is the date on which we intend to dispatch the order and is not a guaranteed delivery date.
6.Personal messages
Gift orders can include a personal message, subject to the character limits shown during checkout. We may refuse to print or deliver messages containing abusive, threatening, hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, illegal or otherwise seriously inappropriate content. If a message cannot be accepted, we’ll contact the purchaser where appropriate.
7.Digital Gift Announcements
Where offered, you can add an Instant Digital Gift Announcement to your order for the price shown at checkout. The announcement is a personalised video revealing that the recipient has been gifted their land on the Moon and can include their acreage, personal message and allocated plot number. You can choose to have the link sent by Moon Estates at a selected date and time or choose to send the link yourself. Scheduling a Digital Gift Announcement does not schedule or change delivery of the physical order. The two are managed independently.
8.Prices and payment
All prices are shown in pounds sterling unless otherwise stated. The total price payable, including any delivery charges, optional add-ons and discounts, will be shown before you complete payment. Payment is processed securely through Stripe. Your order is not confirmed and a lunar plot is not allocated until payment has been successfully completed.
9.Discount codes
From time to time, Moon Estates may issue promotional or discount codes. Codes may be subject to individual conditions including expiry dates, qualifying products, minimum spend or usage limits. Unless otherwise stated, discount codes cannot be exchanged for cash or applied retrospectively to an order already completed.
10.Checking your order
Please check names, addresses, personal messages and other information carefully before completing your purchase. If you discover a mistake afterwards, contact us through the Contact Us form as soon as possible. If your order has not yet entered production, we’ll do our best to correct it. If we make an error in your personalised documents, we’ll replace the affected item free of charge. If the documents correctly reflect information you supplied but you subsequently need them changed, we can provide corrected replacement documents for a small fee plus any applicable delivery charge.
11.When production begins
Although personalised Moon Estates products are not subject to the usual statutory right to cancel simply because you change your mind, we allow you to cancel your order until production begins. For Standard Delivery and scheduled gift orders, production begins when your order enters the relevant fulfilment batch. After that point, cancellation will not normally be possible. Different processing arrangements may apply to expedited orders such as Next Working Day Delivery.
12.Delivery
Standard UK delivery is free and is currently sent using Royal Mail 48, with an expected delivery time of approximately 2–3 working days from dispatch. Where available, customers can purchase Next Working Day Delivery using Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm, subject to the order cut-off and postcode/service restrictions shown during checkout. International orders are sent using an appropriate Royal Mail International Business Tracked service. Full information is available in our Delivery Policy.
13.Cancellation, returns and refunds
Because Moon Estates products are personalised, cancellation rights differ from those applying to ordinary non-personalised goods. You can normally change or cancel an order until it enters the relevant fulfilment batch and production begins. Your statutory rights remain unaffected where goods are faulty, damaged, incorrectly produced or not as described. Full details are provided in our Returns & Refunds Policy.
14.Problems with an order
If your order is damaged, incorrectly produced, lost in delivery or otherwise not as expected, contact us through our Contact Us form and provide your order number. We may ask for photographs or other information necessary to investigate the problem. We’ll provide the appropriate replacement, refund or other remedy where required.
15.Historical Moon land
If you or someone else purchased land on the Moon in the past, we may be able to locate the original allocation from our historical records. For products originally purchased through third-party retailers, including retailers such as WHSmith or Tesco, we will generally only hold the owner’s details if the original recipient registered their lunar land with us. If an original allocation cannot be located, we may, at our discretion, allocate a replacement plot from an area corresponding as closely as reasonably possible to the period of the original purchase. Further information is available through Find My Order / I have a Moon plot bought in the past.
16.Website content
We take reasonable care to ensure that information on our website is accurate. Moon-related editorial material, including the Moon Journal, is provided for general interest and information and should not be treated as scientific, legal, financial or investment advice.
17.Our liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Subject to your statutory rights, Moon Estates is not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was formed or for business losses arising from a purchase made as a consumer.
18.Privacy and marketing
We process personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Where you choose to receive Moon Estates news, stories and occasional offers, you can withdraw that consent at any time. Marketing preferences do not affect transactional communications necessary to administer your order, including order confirmations, Digital Gift Announcement communications and dispatch information.
19.Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. The Terms applying to your purchase are those in effect when you place your order. Later changes will not retrospectively alter your completed order.
20.Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may also benefit from mandatory rights available under the laws applying where you live.
21.Contact us
If you have a question about an order or these Terms, please use the Contact Us form on moonestates.com.
